Final Newsletter - June 20, 2019

Dear Parents,

The year flew by so quickly!  I can't believe it has come to an end!  The year has been filled with wonderful and memorable experiences for both the children and me.  My eleventh year of teaching has proven to be a very special one thanks to all your support and all your children.  I enjoyed getting to know each student and watching them all grow and learn throughout the year.  They were all so enjoyable to work with and it is amazing to see how far they have come.

I would like to thank you all for your cooperation and support throughout the year.  I couldn't do this program without the help of our parent volunteers who I thank wholeheartedly.  I thank you for your help in the classroom (especially with the messy art projects), for chaperoning our field trips, for helping with our celebrations, for coming to our Kindergarten Museum, and for everything you did behind the scenes to make this year wonderful.  Learning is a collaborative experience and fostered through teamwork…teamwork between the teachers, children, and parents.  So thank you for being part of our team!

Just a reminder to continue reading to your child and have your child read to you.  It is so important that books remain a big part of their lives.

I’d like to wish all of you, parents and children alike, the best of everything in the coming years.  I hope that exploration and learning will always be intriguing to you and your children.

Have a safe and happy summer!

Pizza Day

The students were disappointed we didn't get to walk to Simonds Park today but they had a lot of fun eating pizza in the classroom and having extra recess time here at school!

Community Helper Visit

We enjoyed a visit from another community helper today!  Mrs. Piscatelli is a high school English teacher.  She told us about her job, read us a special story, and even gave the students supplies to decorate a bookmark for summer reading!  Thank you Mrs. Piscatelli for visiting our classroom and for being such an important community helper!

June 14, 2019 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Room 115!  It’s hard to believe it was our last full week of school!  We have been busy finishing a bunch of projects, many of which went home this week.  The students finished their “Special Days in Kindergarten” books and have been reflecting a lot about all we have learned this year.

We finished our Community Helpers unit and enjoyed two visits from community helpers and an author visit too (check out previous blog posts).  We made birthday invitations for our “pretend birthdays.”  This was so students could show they know when their birthdays are and what the weather is like that time of year.  They did a great job on these.

The students did a great job helping during our Cleaning Day on Thursday.  We got a lot done!  We want to say a special thank you to Mrs. Rosolino, Mrs. Lewandowski, Mrs. Viveiros, and Mrs. Lowenstein for their willingness to help out!

We are having our Field Day on Monday.  Students should wear sneakers and apply sunscreen at home before coming to school.  Students will be participating in many different outdoor activities.  I’ll try to post a bunch of pictures later in the day!

We are looking forward to our walk to Simonds Park on Tuesday.  More information and some reminders will go home on Monday but I’ve included some information here.  We have ordered pizza for all the students who sent in money.  Everyone else should bring a completely disposable bagged lunch.  All students should wear sneakers.  You are welcome to walk with us or meet us at the park.  Younger siblings are also welcome.  Please plan to bring your own picnic lunch.  We will be leaving the school around 9:30am.  The buses will pick up the students at Simonds Park at dismissal time.  You are welcome to pick up your child there if you would like.  All students who attend an afterschool program will be dropped off back at the school.

Please DO NOT send in backpacks or folders on Tuesday.  We ask that you send your child to school with a bagged, disposable nut-free snack and drink.  Also, please be sure to apply sunscreen in the morning before coming to school.

Our last day of school will be this Thursday, June 20th.  If you have not returned the half-day notice informing us about how your child will be going home from school, please send it back ASAP.  Dismissal is around 11:15am.  Children will be riding home on their morning buses, not on their Kindergarten buses.  This means that they will most likely be dropped off at their morning bus stops instead of at their homes.  If you are picking up your child, please note that the pick up location is not in front of the main office.  It is at the end of the Kindergarten hallway in the front of the school (at the door closest to the flagpole).  Please send your child to school with a backpack and a snack on the last day of school.  We will not be eating lunch at school that day.

Have a great weekend!  Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads of Room 115!

Melanie Duncan

PS… Please let me know if your child is not going to be in school on our last day of school so I can send their projects home ahead of time.  Progress reports will go home on the last day of school.  If your child is not here, they will be sent in the mail.

We enjoyed showing our 3D map of Boston to Mrs. McDonald and Mr. D. this week too!  They were very impressed!
